Let’s breathe…

The Buteyko Breathing Method way.

These breathing audios are thoughtfully designed to help you build better breathing habits from the very first breath.

They meet you where you’re at and give you space to find your way: gently, naturally and without over-breathing.

Breathing slow

This Breathing Slow exercise is designed to guide your breath into a slower, calmer rhythm, with a focus on reducing your Respiratory Rate and strengthening the mind–body connection. The aim is to slow the breath without forcing or over-controlling it, helping you find a pace that feels comfortable while avoiding the tendency to over-breathe.

Breathing slow, low & light

This Breathing Slow, Low & Light exercise brings together the three foundations of efficient breathing; slowing the breath, breathing low into the diaphragm, and keeping the breath light and gentle. Lying down can make it easier to feel the movement of the breath through your abdomen. You can also place a medium to heavy book or block over your navel to give you feedback of 'low' in your body. The aim is to find a breath that is slow, low and light without forcing or taking bigger breaths. Let the breath become quieter, softer and more effortless as you settle into the exercise.

Breathing light

This Breathing Light exercise is designed to help you reduce the volume of your breath and become more aware of how gently you are breathing. Using three fingers beneath the nose, or gently cupping your hands over your face, you’ll learn to notice the sensation of the breath and gradually make it quieter and lighter. The aim is to find a soft, comfortable breath that feels calm and controlled, helping you move away from over-breathing and towards more efficient breathing. The goal of this exericse is to have a senstation of 'air hunger', the feeling like you're going for a brisk walk. This is carbon dioxide building up in your blood and lungs which we are aiming to get you more accustomed to in this exercise.

Many small breath holds - 3 seconds

This Buteyko Breathing Method exercise is designed to help you get out of your head and naturally slow your breathing, without having to try. It’s especially useful when your mind feels busy, or when you’re experiencing anxiety, panic, chest tightness or wheezing. We begin with gentle 3 second breath holds after the exhale when your Control Pause is below 10 seconds.

Many small breath holds - 3-5 seconds

This Buteyko Breathing Method exercise is designed to help quiet a busy mind and naturally slow the breath, without having to try. It’s especially useful when you’re feeling anxious, stressed, or experiencing chest tightness or wheezing. Once your Control Pause is above 10 seconds, you can progress to gentle 3–5 second breath holds after the exhale. Keep the holds comfortable and relaxed - these little holds shouldn't be stressful and should drop you into rest and digest.
